“The craft of directing for the stage is one that I absolutely love, and will never cease being curious about. The myriad details that go into collaboration with designers, musicians, & actors sometimes seems endless, but those relationships and communal desires to get it right are what matter. The “show-within-the-show” aspect of putting a play or musical together is an effort that is sometimes 6-8 months in the making, even if the actors sometimes only see a few weeks of it. Some of my career directing highlights include Peter & The Starcatcher, Hairspray, & Airline Highway at Lake Michigan College, the first ever regional performances of Spring Awakening at the Beckwith Theatre (what a cast!-we had to add performances!) selling out performances of Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at SMC, our first weekend of production of The Bridges of Madison County at The GhostLight Theatre (as well as JRB’s visit the next weekend!), the riveting performances of the casts in both Next to Normal and The Diary of Anne Frank at Twin City Players, and the decade of summer performances with the SMSO on Silver Beach, most notably The Secret Garden, Shrek, My Fair Lady, The Little Mermaid, and, of course Carousel, where it all began. In addition to these directing highlights, I’ve been fortunate to perform alongside many of these performers, wigmasters, music directors, costume designers, and conductors, as well as continue to call many of them my friends. It is for these continued relationships that I am most thankful."
